Why it's interesting
Grand Seiko's hand-wound Elegance is about as close as the brand gets to a pure dress watch: a 37.3 mm Zaratsu-polished case, a domed ivory dial, faceted batons and nothing else to read. The SBGW301 keeps that recipe and quietly rebuilds how the crystal is fitted, which is exactly the kind of update this watch should get.

About this page
Verified specifications, checked September 2026
Dimensions, water resistance, movement and crystal were checked against the sources below.
Case (37.3 × 11.7 mm, 44.3 mm lug-to-lug, 19 mm band), box-shaped sapphire crystal, 61 g, calibre 9S64 and the EUR 5,200 price are from grand-seiko.com. Water resistance: the German page says 3 bar and Monochrome says 30 m; the US page only says 'Splash Resistant'. Current replacement for the SBGW231 (2017), itself descended from the SBGW001 of 2001 (Monochrome). Announced December 2023 and on sale from January 2024. The suggested SBGW231 is no longer on grand-seiko.com.
